How to Create 6 Weeks of Social Media Content in 1 Hour

September 15, 2023

Let’s be honest: Creating social media content week after week can be really exhausting (not to mention so time-consuming). This is even more true if you don’t have a strategy or system in place to make things easier and less stressful along the way.

Thankfully, we know a thing or two about streamlined systems and making businesses more efficient. That’s why we’re sharing these simple and effective steps for creating six weeks of social media content in just one hour.

Step 1: Brainstorm your topics

Before you stare down that empty caption box, it helps to know what you’re going to post about beforehand! Think about common questions you get a lot or conversations you’ve had recently. You can even do some quick market research to see what’s trending or to see what your competitors are doing. Remember: These don’t have to be finished captions or posts yet — just stick to the topics for now!

Think high level. Choose 2 pain points, two fears, and two desires of your ideal client.

Break each of those 6 items into the four content types educate, connect, sell, and transform.

BOOM - you now have four post topics for six weeks.

Pro tip: Our ClickUp Content Calendar has an awesome market research bank you can use to help with the brainstorming phase! It also includes a custom google doc to implement the PFD method listed above.

Step 2: Connect your topics to hashtags

Once you’ve figured out what you’re going to talk about, it’s time to strengthen your topics with some hashtags. Not only do they help you get more traction, but you can use them to hone in on and connect with niche audiences. Plus, figuring out your hashtags beforehand can help you be more intentional with everything you post, instead of waiting until the last minute and throwing some hashtags at the wall. (Don’t worry, we’ve been there before, too).

My favorite place to find hashtags is metahashtag.com and then I store them in my ClickUp Content Calendar pictured below.

Step 3: Choose your publication dates

Whether you plan to post once a day, once a week, or somewhere in between, put your topics in a calendar so you know exactly what you’re posting and when you’re posting it. This also helps with accountability, as your own deadlines should be treated just like your clients’ deadlines. Not sure which type of content calendar you should use? We’ve created a content calendar template to help you get started!

Step 4: Quickly outline your main topics

Remember those topics you brainstormed in Step 1? Quickly go back to them and jot down any bullet points or brief thoughts about them. Again, we’re not striving for fully fleshed-out captions just yet — we want to save all your creative juices for later!

I plug these into my content planning table to keep everything organized.

Step 5: Walk away

Yes, you read that right! Once you’ve finished Steps 1-4, it’s time to walk away. Why? It’s crucial to take breaks — especially when it comes to creating social content. Walking away also helps you clear your head so you can come back to your topics and outlines re-energized and with a fresh set of eyes. Whether your break lasts for an hour, a day, a few days...the choice is yours!

Step 6: Come back and start a timer for one hour

Now that you’ve had time to rest, it’s time to start the clock for one hour and finish what you started! Use this time to:

  • Finish filling in your outlines
  • Look for ways to connect your new posts to other content or resources you’ve already created
  • Create new opportunities for engagement (like asking your audience for feedback, encouraging them to read a post or download a resource, etc.)

You’ll be amazed at how far you can get in one hour. And hey, if you don’t finish your six weeks worth of social posts during that time, that’s ok! You’ll have made it so much further than you did with no strategy, trying to come up with captions on the spot!

Plus, with all of this up-front work already done, your content will only need some finishing touches before it’s ready to post!

After it’s all done it’s nice and organize in my content planning table, check it out!

Step 7: Create a content system that works!

Scrambling to create content every month (or, let's be real, every couple of months) isn't the best way to grow your business or content marketing efforts. But with an efficient, streamlined content system, all of your content ideation, creation, and publication will become a seamless part of your team’s weekly processes! That way, you won’t even have to think about when to create content — you’ll know exactly what to do.

And if you still need a helpful place to start, we’ve created a ClickUp Content Calendar bundle that has everything you need to create your own content calendar (and actually stick to it!). It comes with five already-made templates, including:

  • Weekly Content Calendar
  • Content Planning Table
  • Content Brainstorm
  • Market Research
  • Hashtag Bank

You’ll also score our custom content planning spreadsheet and 10 video tutorials! In other words: Your all-in-one solution for planning all your social content.
