Why we love ClickUp and Asana

Let’s tackle this question first: Why ClickUp vs. Asana? Why not Wrike, or Trello, or monday.com? Well, Jenna and I often get asked about ClickUp and Asana, and we know they’re both recommended to biz owners and project managers a lot.

But we also have personal experiences with using ClickUp and Asana — and reasons why they’re our go-to project management tools!

“ClickUp’s UX just makes sense for my brain”

Did you know that I (Kristi) launched DaSilva Life as a virtual assistant four years ago? Wild, considering where we are today! But project management tools were just as important to my business back then as they are now. I never worked a day without using one.

I had tried Trello and Asana, but when I met ClickUp, that was it for me. The UX in particular just worked with my brain and how I prefer to work. And I loved that ClickUp’s options and features allowed me to figure out what worked for my business.

Eventually, my business naturally evolved to serve clients by organizing their HoneyBook builds and ClickUp setups. And here we are now!

“I knew Asana could benefit me and my clients”

Oddly enough, Jenna also started her business as a virtual assistant five years ago! But she had already had experience using Asana in her previous role at a nonprofit. She knew that Asana would benefit her own business, and the businesses of her future clients.

Jenna always felt that Asana was easy to start using, as well as easy to understand and navigate. There’s basically no learning curve if you’re new to project management tools. Plus, they have a great free version. That’s a huge win!

Now, Jenna supports biz owners with reorganization and systems setups so that they can feel confident delivering their products and services. She’s an Asana Expert, after all!

ClickUp vs. Asana: Strengths

Some of my favorite ClickUp strengths? It has Dashboards and multiple Views. Think of a ClickUp Dashboard as a mission control center, where you have all the information and tools at your fingertips to get the job done. You can create custom dashboards for specific workflows, too!

I also love that there are so many different ways to look at data with ClickUp Views. It helps if you and your team members all process information differently. And certain Views work better for accomplishing specific goals.

As for Jenna, her favorite standout features in Asana include task dependencies and workflow builders. Asana’s workflow builder helps you organize and streamline projects by automating and customizing tasks.

Another favorite feature? Task dependencies. With task dependencies, steps in a project have to be completed in a certain order. A task can block another task or be blocked by another task. This helps manage workflow and collaboration!

Jenna and I both recommend trying each platform and giving yourself a time limit to decide, like three to six months for each. Take note of what you like and what you don’t. Then, once you’ve chosen, stick to it. Bouncing around between different systems to find the “perfect” one will only slow you down and stress out your team.
