How to Achieve Your Business Goals with Systems and Processes

You have big dreams and goals for your business — ones that you know will take a lot of time and hard work. But each time you tell yourself, “Today is the day I’m going to get started,” you quickly realize: You don’t actually know where to start or how to make things happen.

For example, let’s say you want to grow your business by bringing on new team members. Whether you want to hire new employees or contractors, it sounds simple enough, right? But let’s break down what that might actually look like. In order to achieve this goal, you would need to:

  1. Know what you need help with
  2. Know where to look for someone with those exact skillsets
  3. Create an onboarding/training process
  4. Have enough income to pay them fairly
  5. Determine whether you want to provide employee benefits (like insurance, paid time off, etc.)
  6. Figure out all the paperwork involved with hiring new people

...and so much more. On top of that, though, a lot of those tasks need their own processes to happen. All of which can get overwhelming pretty fast. Bottom line? Achieving your business goals requires a lot more than just blanket statements; you need plans and processes to get there.

So, what is it that you want to achieve but aren’t sure where to start? Here’s what you can do to stay on track and crush your goals.

Define your outcome

First thing’s first, you should define the outcome you want — or the ultimate end goal. Do you want to bring on a certain number of new clients by the end of the year? Create a new paid product for your shop? Whatever that looks like for you, be as specific as you can.

Identify the steps to get there

Now that you know exactly what you want, it’s time to figure out how you’ll get there. List out every step you would need to take to reach that outcome. Spoiler alert: This is a process all by itself — you’re already well on your way!

Identify the processes you need

As we continue to work our way backward from the end goal, you need to break down each step to identify any processes you’ll need. For example, if your goal is to land three new clients this quarter, you may need processes for steps like:

  • Outreach: creating an email or DM script to make this more efficient
  • Scheduling: finding and implementing a scheduling tool for pitches, meetings, and discovery calls (we recommend HoneyBook’s native scheduler!)
  • Proposals and follow-ups: determining what to say and which documents to send
  • Client onboarding: including contracts, intro calls, onboarding forms, etc.
  • Timelines and benchmarks: creating a timeline or workflow with tasks and benchmarks to achieve your goal

See how each step in your game plan includes its own processes? No matter your unique end goal, chances are there are processes you need along the way to give yourself more structure and accountability — making it that much easier to replicate in the future.

Use systems that make future processes easier

We know: It sounds like a lot of work to create processes for every new goal or project you want to pursue. But once they’re in place, it actually makes achieving your goals that much easier! That is, of course, if you have the right systems (a.k.a. tools) to help along the way.

Enter: a CRM or PM tool (or both!) to automate, streamline, and organize everything for you, and help with tasks like:

  • Project creation and execution
  • Client and employee onboarding
  • Scheduling
  • Emails
  • Documentation storage
  • In-house document editing
  • And so much more!

Keeping all of these processes housed in one tool can help you replicate them later — saving you tons of time and money. Plus, you'll feel so much more equipped to hit the ground running on every new goal or idea you want to tackle next!
